The Techniques

I have been leading workshops and retreats internationally for 40 years. Since writing this book I am focusing on sharing and clarifying the teachings held within it through workshops. These teachings are profoundly rich. The letters written to Dr. Dickman from the great yoga masters of the past were carefully crafted so he could understand precisely what to do. We are blessed to have the opportunity to experience them in their fullness.

My students have enjoyed being guided through the meditations and pranayama techniques, so with their encouragement I have begun recording them. These recordings will soon be available here online so you can also experience the effects of these wonderful teachings.

Enjoy,
– Mugs McConnell

Meditation

This book is a ‘must-read’ for every sincere and dedicated yoga sadhaka as it provides a glimpse of beautiful soulful responses elicited from great masters by the questioning spirit manifesting through a dedicated seeker in Dr. Harry (Hari) Dickman. As an ideal student of a great teacher, Marion McConnell has done commendable seva (selfless service) for the cause of yoga in bringing all of these historical documents together. She lays out in intricate detail some very rare techniques of pranayama, mudra, and dhyana that are gems for all sincere students. Beautiful stories to enliven the spirit embellish the end of this lovely treatise that will serve as a guide for so many spiritual seekers in time to come.

My teacher Hari taught me this meditation, which is meant to help us find harmony in prakriti. Prakriti is nature, or all of the manifested Universe, which is subject to the effects of the three gunas. The gunas are the three potential qualities found in everything...

Upanishad Mantra Meditation

The Upanishad Mantra Meditation is one of my favourites in Letters from the Yoga Masters on page 165.  It includes four mantras that are intended to help awaken our consciousness to the spirit within. Along with the mantras we visualize the flow of prana. I have...

Sarva Dvara Baddha Pranayama: all doors closed

(another sneak peak from Mug's book) Sarva means "all", dvara means "door", and baddha means "bound."  All the doors or gates where prana can escape are closed. Sit comfortably and apply shanmukhi mudra (cover the ears with the...

Pushpaputa Mudra
